School Yard Development

Help Build Our School Yard!

We need your support
Our school does not have a playground to support the development of our children. Outdoor play is essential for children to develop problem-solving skills, build physical strength and increase environmental awareness.
You have helped us raise an impressive amount over the past three years, bringing us halfway to our goal!
In order to make this school yard project a reality, the children need your support. Contributions of all sizes are welcome. No amount is too small. No amount is too big.

A place to play

Our school only has a structure for kindergarten students.

We have a plan to change that

Tax deductible

Every donation of $25 or more is eligible for a tax receipt.

Student led

We asked our KHPS students what they want in their school yard.

Here's what they said

Proposed school yard plan

The plan

The plan is to build an outdoor stage, a buddy bench, some natural climbing elements, and a sun canopy for the kinder yard.

The estimated cost is approximately $150,000.

So far we have raised approximately $75,000 for this project through our various fundraising activities and donations.

However, to get it up and running as soon as possible we need to raise an additional $60,000, this will allow us to start construction in the 2021/22 school year.

How you can help

Any amount will help bring us closer to our goal!

By cheque: payable to "Kanata Highlands Public School Council". Please indicate in the memo section: "KHPS Playground". Cheques should be delivered to the school office for the attention of the School Council.

By credit card: Visit the KHPS online donation page. This service is officially supported by the OCDSB and is a safe and secure way to donate via credit card.

Please fill out the donation form in order to receive a tax receipt.

Why is this so expensive?

Due to modern safety and accessibility standards, playgrounds are very costly. Everything we want must be board certified and installed by approved vendors and labour.

Does the school board provide funds?

Not really. All new schools get a play structure ONLY for the kindergarten yard. Everything else is up to the parents and community to pay for expenses. There are some grants available from the city of Ottawa (which we are pursuing) but it will only cover 10% of the project cost.

Can I ask for a donation from my employer?

Absolutely! If you work for a local employer in the Kanata North area, please feel free to put us in contact with them if they are interested in supporting the project. There are opportunities for companies to be recognized for their support. Please email if you or your employer would like more details on making a donation.
